Over the last several weeks ive been spending my spare evening hours working on yet another more or less pointless project :)))
This time its assembling a model airplane kit... Well, actually its more of a "museum quality replica" rather than just your average "kit". Its a very highly detailed, acurate 1/16th scale "structural replica" of a WWI German aircraft (Albatros DVa) and its intended to show off all the internal elements of the aircraft and so has no covering.
I bought the kit (which was quite expensive as far as static display model airplane kits go) quite a few years ago (before I went off traveling on the motorbike) but I hadnt got around to building it, so its just been sitting in my pile of stored boxes for years... It was a good winter project since it effectively only cost me the price of a bottle of super-glue to do and thats in line with my "budgetary constraints" for this year :)
The only problem with it is that now I have to find somewhere to put it in my house ... Oh well, thats not an unusual problem for me :)
Anyway, since I dont watch cable TV, this is the sort of thing I spend my evening hours doing :))
Bunch of pictures below:
Just the woodem frames took me three weeks to complete!
The wing ribs are all individually built up with very small and delicate strips of wood.
The engine is made up uf dozens of individual pieces of "britania metal" which is some sort of Tin alloy I think, but its very soft and very heavy... Another week spent on building this bit.
And then I added all the other metal fittings to the wooden parts... which took another week.
And then finaly I put all the sections together and then added all the rigging wires and control linkage wires (which are all functional)
And so thats another project completed... And thankfully the sunlight is now starting to return to these latitudes and Ill be able to work on outdoor projects in the evenings... Well, that is if the rain ever decides to ease up ! :))
