It doesnt matter what country you are in, Stuff just falls off vehicles from time to time.
As a carefull rider I always try to avoid these impromptue obstacles since thay can do all sorts of damage to me or the bike. The most likely is of course a flat tyre.
Yesterday I came across a real "doozy" though. I figure there'd be a real good chance of a flat tyre with those pointy bits on it :)))
