Im told the feral horses Ive been seeing in Northern South Africa and Southern Namibia were brought over by the Germans in the first world war. (Namibia was colonized by the Germans, while South Africa was Dutch/British).
So, the horses are largely "Warm Bloods", which is a breed of horse very popular these days for show jumping.
Anyway, the horses have been running wild in these very arid areas for pretty much 100 years now and they are now being recognized as something of at least some value and some conservation efforts are under way to preserve them (much like for the Australian Brumbies and the American Mustangs)
Just thought Id share that :)
